Training
Hi, our major collegiate tournament has just ended and we are back to the off-season training routine. Our off-season training is very heavy on off-the-table exercises. Here's the training program we follow for this off-season:
- 4 sets of 250 jump ropes
- 1 set of 6 min. core exercises
- 3 sets (5 different movements each) ladders for footwork
- 250 shadowing (2x FH loop and 2x BH loop)
- 2 hours on-the-table training (drills and multi-balls)
- 2 sets (5 different movements each) leg exercises
- 2 sets of core exercises
- 100 half push-ups
- On-the-table: Service practice
I just want to ask if are all these off-the-table exercises adequate for table tennis? To be honest, I feel like too much time is spent on off-the-table exercises and I think we should focus on giving more time to the on-the-table training itself. I've also heard that push-ups can destroy my form in table tennis. Is this true? Thanks in advance. :)
Hi Wayne,
Those exercises all look appropriate depending on the detail of each.
You can gain some conditioning through the multi-ball and other drills as well.

Question actions
Playing forehand and backhand strokes individually in practice is an important step in your development but to use them effectively in a game situation you must be able to switch between them. This sounds like a simple step but it's something you must practice. Lesson 10 focuses on ensuring you can quickly switch between your backhand and forehand table tennis strokes.
