Hi Alois,

I played with several very good players and they return my topspin with another topspin easily. I tried to do another counter topspin but i feel that the ball so heavy,  even heavier than returning a backspin ball. As the result i only can return the ball slowly with a slight spin on it. So, my questions are :

  1. Why counter topspin is more difficult to do than a loop ?
  2. Can u give me some tips how to do a fast counter topspin in a topspin rally ?
  3. What should i do to excel topspin to topspin rally ?

Thanks you

HI Ernest,

Take a look at our lesson on the Topspin to Topspin which may help.

It is a difficult stroke to pay because you are reversing the heavy spin that is coming towards you.  The ball is also dipping quickly with their topspin.

With the loop off backspin the ball is still moving in the same direction.

Relaxation: The Secret to More Power

In this video we show you a simple trick to improve your strokes by making them more economical. You'll notice increased power for less effort. When you tense your muscles too much you actually get less power and become more tired. However when you relax the opposite happens. It's why all the best players look like they are hitting the ball so hard without much effort.
