Hi coaches!

Is there only one correct topspin?

I think there are differences between topspins of

Ma Long and Zhang Jike

Joo Sae Hyuk and Samsonov, etc

Most of good players say that mine is not topspin, or they say "your stroke is not correct". But they don't want to teach.

I am trying to learn topspin for 5 years but without success.

As you suggested, I am trying to increase brushing during hitting the ball.

I use open bat during brushing, sometimes it is very succesful,  ecpecially against backspins. But it doesn't make enough curve.

I can brush the ball with closed bat, it makes good curve, but the problem is: there are very high risk for me to miss, especially against fast balls. I can't catch the ball with closed bat. That's why I don't use it during the game.

What must I do? Please help me!

Hi Ardak,

There are subtle differences in the strokes of different players but the basics are the same.

Focus on the start and finish positions and also the contact.  I would start with a more open bat so that you re making more regular contact with the ball.  Start it slower till you get the feel of the ball.  Then you can advance it to a finer brushing contact for more spin.

Always start with the basic swing and keep it relaxed and slow.  As you get the feel, you can speed it up.
