Hello, Im currently playing at amateur TT club and we dont have coach. So I want to ask, how should our Training unit look like. Nowadays we just warm up (forehand/backhand counterhit) and then, for 2 hours or so, play matches. And thats our whole training unit, which is not very good in my opinion.

Thank you, for your reply.

Hi Roman,

It is important to structure your training session to ensure your are focusing on what you want to improve.

We have a template of a training session that you can utilise in our Free Downloads section.  Take a look at the Training Plan link.  Then also look at the Training Drills download which will give you some ideas of what you can practice during the session.

For our Premium members we have a session on Training Secrets.  This outlines things you need to take into consideration when setting up your training session.

We also have a 52 Week Training Plan for our Premium members which sets out 52 weeks of lessons that you an work your way through.

#8 - Fast Footwork

In this session you'll focus on increasing the speed of your footwork. To do this we ask you to forget about consistency and concentrate on speed. You should be playing at a pace where you can get around 4 or 5 balls on the table. If you are getting 10 or 20 balls on then you need to up your pace again. It's important to play right to the edge of your ability to actually increase your skill level. We also continue to develop the new serve you have chosen to work on.

Hello, thank you very much, I will take a look at that, I think the Training Plan is what I was looking for, so thank you for that.

Last question - Could you please tell something about our current unit? I'd like to show your answer/opinion to our club members, to show them what real coach thinks and so maybe they will be listening to me more, than if I just tell them to start doing drills etc. instead of just playing games.

Thank you.

Target your training specifically at things you want to improve.  You need some element of games but not the whole session.
