Topspin too late when ball is down on backspin

Strokes

Hi Coach,

My Topspin starts low below table (somewhere between my knee and table height) against a backspin and finish high up(vertical). Of course , I have to do a strong or semi-strong topspin but sometimes I just miss the ball completely.

A good player at our club told me that I should not wait for the ball to fall below the table instead take it on its summit or just before and do a simple Topspin (racket rather vertical and use more of my wrist if required).  On the second shot just do a kill shot if balls comes a little high or make my topspin faster.  It is basically a topspin  against a normal loop but racket vertical and use wrist (no need for a fast stroke at the initial one and then get a faster stroke next) .

Is that something you would recommend.

Regards

Rama

Hi Rama,

Yes this is good advice.

By taking the first ball from a little higher it will give you a better chance of lifting it over the net.
