Strokes
Hello
i am having some problem with my loop. The problem is I just dont know how fast and high to swing my bat.Sometimes it goes over the table far away, and sometimes hits the net. Can you tell me when to swing the bat really fast and high and when not to, including the distance between the ball and the net and amount of spin on the ball? Thx
Hi Sally,
This is a matter of hitting and adjusting. The stroke varies slightly with the type of ball you are receiving. A ball coming with more topspin will require you to come more over the ball with your stroke. If there is backspin you will need to have a more lifting stroke and swing the bat faster to counteract the spin.
The more topspin you generate the more distance you can have over th net and the bigger margin for error because the topspin will make the ball dip down onto the table faster.
You just need to hit lots of balls and be aware of what is happening to each ball.
How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
