 Hi Alois / Jeff,

Hope you are doing good.... I must thank you for all the advices you have been giving till now..

I am having this difficulty to return the chop serves, returns with a Top spin return in a rally... Many of my team mates say its always better to chop against a chop irrespective of where the ball is... long or short... But in many of your videos i have learnt.. that if the ball is long then its time to attack with a top spin. But can i do the same against a long chop?

The moment i do that, the ball hits the net or falls on my side of the table.... Pls help me..

God bless.. Cheers !!

Rajiv

Hi Rajiv,

It is better to learn how to make a topspin against a chop ball because it will get you into an attacking position.

Firstly take a look at our lesson on the Forehand Loop Off Backspin.  This is the stroke you can implement in this situation.  You can do this if the ball is anywhere long on the table, meaning it has only bounced once on your side.

If the ball is going into the net you can either increase the speed of your bat or you can make your stroke more vertical.  This will give the ball more lift.  Persevere with the stroke.  It will be useful as you improve.

Banana Flick

The banana flick has become one of the most important returns in table tennis. It allows you to attack almost any short ball and places your opponent under immediate pressure. Still it is a difficult stroke that takes a lot of practice to master.
