Hi Edwin,

A dead ball is a ball that has no spin on it.

You can use it to keep the ball short and change the pace of the rally.

To return a dead ball you can use the Forehand Flick which is an attacking stroke or you can try to short push it but you will need to come straight down on the contact of the ball to keep it low because it doesn't have any backspin on it.

Hi Edwin,

It isn't such a big thing if you are entering a competition. The main thing is to get your game right first.  Make sure that in the competition you are implementing the things that you are doing in practice.  Dealing with dead balls is a very minor part of the game and not something you need to spend a lot of time worrying about.

Also do a search at the top of the Ask the Coach page on Dead Balls and you will find some other good suggestions.

Dead balls are not hard to handle with inverted rubber, but it's the bane of many LP and antispin player.  That's the reason why so many people play dead balls to the LP/antispin side.

How to serve it?

Hi Edwin,

You just serve the ball with no spin.
