Hi Alois and Jeff

I've been promoted up to division 2 for the upcoming pennant season and I've taken note of the players in the division who use short pimples. As a long pimple defender, I'm reliant on my opponent's spin but up against short pimple attackers who give me little spin what tactics would you recommend?

Having read numerous blogs about the recent Australian Open, it got me thinking who Australia's top defensive player is and are they anywhere near competitive with the likes of Gerada and Carter?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hi Leslie,

The best tactic would be to be patient and put more backspin on the ball and keep it as low as possible as it is harder to lift the ball with the pimples.

The fact that they can't give you as much spin is also an advantage for you.

Not sure who would be considered the best defender in Australia at the moment.  Do you have any thoughts?

Whoever it is probably isn't really a match for Gerada or Carter.

Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering if you could elaborate on how it is an advantage for me if they can't give me as much spin. I thought the main strength behind long pimples was to deceive your opponent by using their spin against them.

Keeping it low with backspin is just something that will make it difficult for them rather than turning into an advantage.

Because they are using short pimples they will always find it difficult to generate spin for you to use.
