Hey coaches,

I tried the brushing contact on my serves. I found that the more i try to do it, the more errors i make like hitting the net and the edge of my bat. Any help on that?

Hi Jack,

Yes this is all part of the process.  You will find that you make a lot of mistakes to start with.  If you don't, then you are not making enough of an effort to brush the ball.

Does the height of the toss affect the brushing contact? Do you need to use a lot of writst or just brush it very fast?

The higher you throw the ball the faster it will hit your racket so you will generate more spin.  The contact needs to remain the same.

The wrist needs to move fast.  This is the fastest part of your swing.  You don't need much action with the rest of your arm, mainly the wrist.

I've seen players like Ma Long using torque from their body when the contact is made. Does it help to create more spin and speed?

The body will certainly add a little.  The main focus needs to be the wrist.
