Hi Alois

I am able to play almost all kinds of shots with good consistency especially on forehand.

But I am not able to read my opponent's weaknesses. How can I start making strategies against any player?

What all I should keep in mind while playing a match?

Hi Sumit,

Take a look at The PingSkills Vault.  This will guide you through some strategies.  It is a great tool for players just like you that are wanting to find some answers.

If you go through this process a few times you will start to be able to do it during matches as well by following the steps.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.

I've been using the vault for a month now and it has seriously improved my game. It has allowed me to discover my weaknesses that I needed to work on, as well as identifying the strengthes and weaknesses of the club members.

Hi Rory,

That is great to hear.  I don’t think enough players realise the value of the Vault.  Thanks for your words of encouragement for all the PingSkillers out there.
