How to defend monster smashes

Hi Somshekar,

The best way is to step back away from the table and use the Lob stroke.

I hope those monsters don't scare you to much!

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.

Its very tricky to do those. You can't move very far away. If the opponent sees you move he might cushion the ball near the net. One has to also keep in mind to defend in both ways - back and forehand. Also he has to concentrate on the ball as it travels very fast. I personally face a lot of difficulty in keeping those back on the table. But I think, as Alois always keeps saying, a lot of practice is the key.
