Hi coach,

I use a shakehand grip, but my grip is a little lower than what jeff has shown in the pingskills tutorial. My forefinger on the backhand side of the bat is also a little bit, just a little bit more diagonal than the traditional style. I have been playing tt for past 6 months. i m not a very advanced player but have developed decent counterhits and topspins shots on both the forehand and backhand side. Should i tinker with my grip now??  Is it worth it?  And if i should can u help me to expedite the transition into the new grip

Thanks

Hi Rajesh,

That grip sounds fine as long as you feel you have control over the racket head.  If not just get the hand a little closer to the head.  You will need to keep reminding yourself to do this regularly if you think you should change.  I would say that the grip as you are describing it is OK.

Alois my control on the  ball is fine in this grip, the thing tht i ws concerned abt is if at a later stage i might not be able to generate enough pace as the traditional shakehand grip holders

The longer grip could actually allow you to generate more speed because you are creating a longer lever.  It is more the control that is the issue so if you feel comfortable then keep going with it.
