Hello Coach

I have a question regarding fundamentals. I am new to table tennis, and want to know what fundamentals (Basics) I should know, and also how long it takes to learn the fundamentals. (Basics) I'm also 13.

Thank you for your time

Kind Regards

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your question.  It is wonderful to hear that at 13 you are wanting to make improvements to your game.

I think the best way is to work your way through the Strokes Tutorials on the site.  As you go through each of these you will start to gain confidence in your abilities.

There is no time line on each of these strokes.  I want you to start to work on them a little quicker than you feel comfortable.  As you start to feel comfortable challenge yourself a little more with speed, spin or placement on each of them.

Keep working on these strokes and let me know how you are progressing.

Backhand Block

The backhand block is used to counter a topspin stroke. Once you can return your opponents attacking strokes, you will take your game to a new level.

Dan,

People your age seem to pick up the sport quickly, but it will always seem too slow.  Be patient in your progress.  It does take a little bit of time to really learn the sport so don't get discouraged.  The important thing is to have fun.
