Technical advice regarding weight and durability – GEWO/XIOM configuration

Equipment

Good morning,

I am writing to ask for your technical expert opinion on a setup I am currently evaluating. I am interested in one of these two blades: the GEWO Prithika Pavade Carbon Basic (88g) or the GEWO An Jaehyun Carbon Basic (89g).

I am currently using a Tibhar Stratus Powerwood, but both my coach and I feel it is now too slow for my current level. I need to upgrade to a faster carbon blade to continue my progression.

I am undecided between the two:

  • The Prithika Pavade seems interesting if it offers a higher arc (throw angle) and more safety.

  • The An Jaehyun seems more linear, and I wonder if it might be a better long-term investment that I can keep using as I become a much stronger player.

Initially, I considered mounting two XIOM Vega X rubbers. However, I am concerned about the total weight and the racket becoming too head-heavy.

Maintenance and Season Timeline: I take extreme care of my equipment. I clean my rubbers with distilled water after every single use and I always store them with adhesive protection sheets. My season starts in September, with peak tournament activity between December and January, continuing until April. I then continue training until June.

My questions:

  1. Weight and Balance: If I switch to a XIOM Vega Korea on the backhand instead of a second Vega X, would this significantly help with the overall weight and balance?

  2. Backhand Suitability: Is the Vega Korea a better overall combination for this setup to maintain agility, or would a Vega X on the backhand still be a decent and manageable choice?

  3. Realistic Durability: Regarding the Vega Korea, I need it to last until April. I don’t expect it to perform at 100% like a brand-new rubber by then, but I need it to remain "playable" and effective (let's say at least 80% of its grip and catapult effect). Given my strict cleaning routine, is this a realistic expectation for this specific rubber?

  4. Blade Choice: Considering that I need more speed than the Stratus Powerwood, which blade would you recommend? Should I go for the Pavade for the arc/safety or the An Jaehyun for a more linear and long-term professional feel?

Thank you in advance for your professional support.

Best regards

Hi Dario,

Equipment is not my strength however, I think either of those blades will be reasonable for you if you are looking for a slight upgrade in speed.

Others with more equipment knowledge may be able to help here.
