It isn't clear to me if the paddle swings in the direction that I want the ball to go or if the paddle swings straight ahead and is closed enough so the ball goes downward. Tnx

Hi Vincent,

The angle of the racket depends on the height of the ball and also if the ball has topspin, no spin or backspin on it.

If the ball is very high when you contact it and it has a lot of topspin, then you need to angle your bat downwards.  If the ball is lower or has backspin on it then you can open the angle of the bat more.
