Strokes
Hello
Often, I find myself in the situation that during the rally, I managed to push the other player in a difficult spot far from the table. Often they bring the ball back extremely high but short in the middle of the table. Of course I want to hit that ball the hardest I can with a killer-smash because it's easy right? Still it often happens that I and many other players miss this shot so it goes long. How and when should I hit it? what if they try to put some nasty spin on it? Should I remain the same technique?
kind regards
Hi Thijs,
When the ball goes higher during the rally often players make a mistake with this if they don't move into position to make the smash.
When you see the ball high, make sure you use the time that the ball is in the air to move your feet. Try to hit the ball at shoulder height. If you rush and hit the ball too early and high or if you don't move and then suddenly find the ball is too low you are more likely to make a mistake.
Don't think of it as an easy ball when it goes up high because you still need to move and play the stroke properly.
So look for the ball in the right position and move your feet to get into place.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
