hello sir,

i am an intermediate player and have developed my strokes upto a level where i feel that i need to shift my racquet from a premade one to a custom one. but i have  prominent queries which need to be adressed. my queries will be put up numberwise and i request you to answer each query seperately.

1i am confused what  defense actually is. i am a left handed player and when someone hits a smash, i simply take a step back and put my racket firm, thus resulting in the ball going back to the court( well, not always). and when i see youtube videos, there players defend shots by chopping, some on backhand only or some from the both sides. so going back to the question, what actually is  a right way to defend the topspins or smashes?

2) my backhand portion is pretty agressive. whenever i get a chance, i hit a backhand smash really, really hard. but i want to develop a game where i defend through my backnand by the chop method. some say that long pimpled rubber is used for defense. i plan to purchase it, but then willl i be able to hit backhand smashes agressively like i do in normal rubber or not?

3) the final question, which rubbers shall i use? ( specify sponge thickness too, if possible) an overview

FOREHAND- aggressive/ topspin

BACKHAND- aggressive/ backhand push is pretty good/ wannabe defender

Hi Ankur,

Defense can be referred to as blocking, chopping or lobbing.

Which type of defense you use will depend on your position and also your strengths.  If you like chopping and you are away from the table then that is your best option.  Otherwise the lob may be the best option.

If you are close to the table then use the block.  It sounds like you have a good block already.

If you are aggressive on the backhand then I wouldn’t recommend long pimples.  You can still chop with inverted rubber but it is very difficult to attack with long pimples.  You could use a 1.5mm rubber which will allow enough control and still be able to attack well.  I would just go for Mark rubber on both side, 2mm on the forehand and 1.5 on the backhand.

sir i don't know much about blades as well.  now,  please recommend a few blades i should buy because i have no idea what to go for.  you already know my style,  aggressive forehand and aggressive + detensive backhand.

also what difference does it make if a racket is lightweight?? i mean how does the weight of the racquet comes into the picture??

You could try the PingSkills Touch.  It is an all-round blade.  The weight of the racket is just a matter of feel.  Some players like light rackets and others heavy.

How many days will it take to ship it to india?

And one more query. Do you think it is a good idea to use butterfly tackiness chop on my backhand?

On the forehand i intend to use mark v 2.2.

So whichever is a better option for backhand? Tackiness chop or mark v 1.5? Basically i want to know which rubber out of these two will let me chop and hit smashes aa well more better?

sorry its mark v 2mm not 2.2

They are similar.  I think the Tackiness will give you more control, the Mark V will give you more hitting power.
