Hi pingskills,

I have a problem with countering the ball near the table because the ball always comes to me very fast, therefore I can't react to it, especially on my backhand. When that fast ball comes I always freeze and can't do nothing about it. So how can i counter attack if I can't even react to it. If I am a bit further away from the table, it's easier for me to counter loop  because I have a bit more time. But the attack is usually the third ball so I'm usually still close to the table.  it is like defending a third ball. Please help me out pingskills

Hi Eugene,

If you don’t have time, then just block the ball rather than trying to counter the ball.

Take a look at our lesson on how to Counter a Slow Spinny Topspin.  This will help you with the technique when you get the time.

Hi alois, I have watched this video but the stroke in this video is slow which gives me more time to react.

I can't always block the ball because the more blocks I do the more chances you give your opponent to attack. And every attack gets faster and faster. And I can put more pressure on my opponents with and attacking stroke rather than defensive stroke

Great video by the way, I also have a lot of problems with slow spinny topspin but this video helped me a lot. Can't wait to try it out against my friend tomorrow

That is right Eugene.  You need to make a countering shot.

Just add a little speed to your block at first and then a little topspin on it as well.  You will be surprised him much difference just that little change can make as well.
