Hello Coaches:

Can I use long pimple rubber to do looping, if it can, what is the technique to do it.  Thanks

Best regards,

Hi Gregory,

The long pimple can't generate much spin of its own so it is no good for looping.  You can attack if they give you a heavy backspin ball like we show in the lesson on the LP Attack Against Backspin.

Watch Carl Prean

He could do a "topspin" with pimples.

I do not know what spin was on it but it was certainly a stable attack.

Hi Coach Alois:

How about short or medium pimples? If so, what is the techniques, I would like to defend but when opportunities come, I would like to attack with looping or topspin.   Thanks

Hi Gregory,

You can generate more topspin with the short pimples than with medium or long.  Conversely, you get less chopping control with the short so it is a matter of trying to find a happy balance of what you want to do.

The short still doesn't get anywhere near as much spin as with inverted rubber.

Hi Coach Alois:

Thanks, I will try different pimples and inverted rubber, maybe I will use one side pimples and one side inverted rubber, but I have to learn how to flip the racket during play. How do I practice flipping the racket?  Thanks

That is a good option.  To practice flipping, you can even sit in front of the TV or computer and practice flipping it around.  The more you practice it the more natural it will feel and the quicker you will get.  Then in training, you can do a drill playing one forehand and one backhand and try to switch to use the averted on both sides.  Do it slowly at first and then speed it up as you get more confident.

Hi Coach Alois:

Thank you for your guidance, I will practice on the flipping and apply it into my games.
