1. I am a lover of topspin and I am even training for it currently. I mean both FH and BH. However, I don't really know how to effectively block the same topspin stokes from the opponents. What do I do?

Kindly give me tips on this.

2. How do master to the art and science of attacking serves regardless of the kind of spin in it?

3. How do I stay longer in rally after initiating attack with my third ball?

Hi Levi,

Here are some brief answers to these big topics:

  1. Blocking topspin
    • Keep the bat angle slightly closed.
    • Use a short, soft touch don’t swing.
    • Let the opponent’s spin work for you.
    • Stay balanced and meet the ball early, in front of you.

  2. Attacking serves
    • Read the spin first by watching the contact.
    • Start with small, controlled attacks: brush lightly, don’t hit hard.
    • Against backspin, lift. Against topspin, close the bat. Against sidespin, adjust the angle to the spin.
    • Practice with a partner or robot using predictable serves, then add variation.

  3. Staying longer in rallies after the third ball
    • Expect the ball to come back.
    • Use your next shot to re-establish control, not to finish the point immediately.
    • Focus on placement and consistency rather than power on the fourth ball.

Snake Shot

A snake shot is a type of stroke which is specifically used against a drop shot. It is usually loaded with a heavy spin so that the opponent finds it difficult to counter. The type of spin can be backspin, sidespin or topspin depending on your choice. You need to make a movement after hitting the ball to confuse your opponent.
