Equipment
I'm planning on purchasing a Tibhar Stratus Powerwood because I love its construction (5-ply with a Limba exterior) and its power. However, the standard deck dimensions (approximately 158 x 152 mm) are too large for my needs. I'm considering sanding it down to a more "compact" size. I want to do this for two reasons: Balance: I want to reduce the head weight to make it more manageable. Economy : I plan to use this frame for years. Since modern used Tensors shrink so much (often 154-155 mm tall and 148-149 mm wide), the original Powerwood deck would leave too much wood exposed. My questions are: Optimal dimensions: To maintain a harmonious shape and avoid unbalancing it, do you recommend reducing the width proportionally as well? I was thinking of bringing it down to 155 x 149 mm. Is it feasible or do I risk damaging the structure? Limba Processing: Is the outer layer of Limba delicate? Is there a risk of chipping when sanding the edges? Procedure: What grit sandpaper do you recommend for a clean finish without tearing the fibers?
Hi Dario,
I think if you start to mess with the blade you are going to get yourself into trouble.
Stay with what it is and you will soon find that you will get used to it.
