Hi Alois and Jeff great job on ping skills by the way.

I'm really struggling on practising my backhand block in my training sessions. Do you know a good technique to practise in training that I can do?

Thanks :)

Hi Trevor,

Whenever your partner is doing a drill you can practice your blocking.  You an focus on placement, reactions or speed depending on what drill they are doing.

You can simply get your partner to topspin balls to you on your backhand side for a few minutes.  Then you can get them to topspin one to each side and then finally topspin to anywhere on the table.  This is a good set of drills to practice your blocking.

You do it to either side because sometimes players are good at doing the stroke but not as good at reacting to where the ball is coming and then doing the stroke.

#42 - Study Your Opponent

This is the second training plan focusing on match strategy. Last week we looked at your strengths and building a game around that. This week you should examine one of your competitors and pick out their weaknesses. Then you can design some training drills to expose those weaknesses. By doing this you'll be able to exploit them in a match situation and win points more easily.
