Training
HI, please advise how to attack chop & slow spinning balls & advise best way to practice/train against this? thank you
Hi Frank,
To attack a chop ball you need to use a topspin stroke. Take a look at the tutorial on the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin stroke. The keys are to make sure you are brushing the ball and the stroke is a little more low to high to lift the backspin over the net.
You can utilise multi-ball to get the feel of the stroke. Get the feeder to feed out with some backspin initially. Then you can get them to vary between backspin and topspin feed. You can also get them to feed out varying amounts of backspin so that you are adjusting to these changes in spin.
Finally you need to find a defensive player to play with. This will be the biggest benefit if you can find a defensive player.
Unless you are a defender you won't be practicing chopping regularly. However the chop is a great way to stay in the point if you are out of position and is also a difficult variation for your opponent to deal with.
