Hello Alois and Jeff!

I have been thinking for a very long time why everybody (especially europeans) don't use chinese rubbers especially for fh. Because we all know the chinese players are the best and kind of all of them uses chinese rubbers (dhs, nittaku, 729). So there is probably a reason for why they are choosing chinese rubbers.

There are also other things that i can't understand in this question. The chinese rubbers have more spin, costs the half price from european and lasts a longer time. Looking at the 3 best chinese and the 3 best european players (ittf ranking).

Ma Long, Xu Xin, Wang Hao are all using dhs on fh.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Timo Boll, Vladimir Samsonov are using donic, butterfly and tibhar which are european brands.

So can you please try to explain why chineses use chinese equipment and european use european equipment?

Hi Jakob,

Equipment is only a small part of the recipe to playing well.  The major factor of why the Chinese are the best is that they train very hard and they also have a lot of players in China.  If they all decided to use European rubber, they would still be the best in the world.

It doesn't necessarily suit everyone.  The European rubber feels better and suits their game better.

i have two rackets. One with softer european rubber (donic baracuda) on both sides and one i just put together for testing and messing around with the classical and very cheap DHS PF4. The sponge is hard as concrete.

I noticed that the speed curve is completely different. The PF4 is fairly slow when just pushing or blocking or counter hitting the ball. If you put more power in the shots the rubber becomes pretty fast though.

With the PF4 i have problems to get of some Topspin while blocking and the short game on the table works extremely well.

The Donic Baracuda is alot faster even with soft strokes. My topsins work alot better with this but i still have some problems with blocking and short pushes.
