Strokes
Hi, I am a penhold player, and I play at my local high schools, table tennis club, I have difficult doing a backhand when people hit the ball hard and fast, and also when they hit in the middle, How do I have a strong backhand while playing penhold grip?
Thanks, Ben (Squasha)
Hi Ben,
We do have a lesson that shows you the Reverse Penhold backhand. Penhold Techniques for Table Tennis. The backhand is a little more difficult with the penhold grip but work on the Reverse Penhold.
When they play fast or to the middle you could use a normal penhold backhand block. The crossover point is one of the advantages of the penhold because you can use the same side of the racket on both forehand and backhand sides.
Most players are told to always return to the ready position after every stroke but that might be hurting your game. In this video, we reveal a smarter way to recover:
✔ Track the ball immediately after your shot
✔ Move your racket into position for the next shot instead of blindly resetting
✔ Improve your timing, balance, and flow during rallies
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, understanding this subtle change can have a big impact on your consistency and speed around the table.
