Waldner Blocking

Strokes

I realise that Waldner is the blockmaster and can return almost any loop provided he is in a good ready position and never misses. He is the only one whom i've seen return Ma Lin's 3rd ball and also he does uses his block to great measures. How does he do it?

Hi Oliver,

That is a very good question.  I think it has a lot to do with the number of balls he has hit in his life and his ability to read the play.  He always seems to be in the right position.

He is a difficult player to copy because of this unbelievable ability.  The things I like to take from his game is the relaxed nature he displays and his creativity.

I love watching videos from his youth when he does those side-spin blocks.  Even world class players had trouble coping with the spin on those!
