Hi Jeff and Alois a lot of people are asking about how to practice alone and stuff and you answer them repeatedly. So, I was just wondering if you can post a video on things we can do by ourselves to train. Maybe like warmup with some footwork. Then hit the ball with you paddle and switch sides. Move to the table and hit against it. I know it is best to practice with a partner, but sometimes it's hard to hit the club.

I've tried to do some forehand/backhand practice by putting the table down and putting it up against a wall, I think that was one of your answers, but anyways it was super hard for me to get more than like three shots. So was there a correct way to doing this or did I just interpret you answer incorrectly?

I know you guys are super busy people, but when you find the time and wonder what skills to teach in your next video, I believe a lot of us newbies would love a lesson on how we can train alone. Well thanks for your time and have a great one!

I really think Tim is right. I think you should have a lesson on practicing alone because always finding partners are a difficult task.

In my own opinion, I think that putting a table on a wall is for developing hand eye coordination and are for beginners. I used to do it when I was a kid and now I stopped because I found many bad habits I developed like breaking the wrist. Your main goal is hitting the ball in an area to bounce again on your side. Not to mention you can't do the full stroke unless you have superhuman reaction. It's better to try experimenting bouncing the ball with different kinds of spin and learning to deflect it. That was my main exercise during my non playing days. Even Waldner does it to create a magic touch. I saw it on Donic Training DVD (Which is now useless since it is now on the web ready for download)

Here is a list of bad habits I've developed and viewed through a video on myself during the first years of playing.

  • Breaking wrist
  • Cramping the stroke
  • Pissed at the ball not bouncing
  • Limiting power so the ball will land on the table
  • A lot more

Here is a video on Youtube you can do. You can be amazed at the things you can do alone with a racket and a ball.
