Lift a short chop

I had a request for some defensive shots in pingpong. If for example the ball is coming really LOW AND SHORT on either side what is the technique to lift the ball onto the other side with perhaps some back spin on it. I saw the topspin and chop videos but Im not sure if they are applicable since you wont get the leverage to be able to top spin the ball, and the chop return requires the ball to be bouncing high. I tried to somehow get under the ball and lift it but cant get the correct technique. It would be great if you could make a video for this

Thanks.

Hi Eric,

You probably need to use the flick here to lift the short ball.  It can be more difficult if it has backspin but it is not impossible.

Take a look at the lesson on the Forehand Flick.  Take a look at all of it but particularly from 1:05 to 1:20 on this lesson for how to flick a short backspin ball.

It may not seem it but even the short low balls will bounce up around net height so it is possible to get under it and flick it.  It is not a stroke that is the first choice.  I think a short push back is the best option.

I hope this helps.
