Hi Alois

In your videos, you said that I need to vary my types of serve, but if I change my serve to something else instead of the one that they do not like, my opponent will get the point easily, do I still need to vary the serves in this case?

Hi Yap,

You always need to think about the serves your opponent doesn't like.  Change for the sake of change is never advisable.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

Hi Alois

So do you mean that you advise me to keep using the serve (the long fast pendulum serve to backhand side) that my opponent doesn't like all the time, or I can try to vary other serves that are short, so my opponent will not attack.

You need to try other serves but if they don't work then stay with the serves that you find useful.
