Strokes
how can you control the spin, placement and speed of your topspin stroke?
Hi Sally,
Make sure you have the stroke correct first. Then work on your balance. If you have those two things correct you will be able to vary your stroke for speed, spin and placement.
To vary spin you can vary the contact on the bat on the ball. A thinner faster contact will give you more spin. A flatter faster stroke will give you more spin and a small change with your wrist will change the placement. This can only occur with the basics being correct first.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
