I have trouble topspining the ball near the end of the table. When they have backspin it's no problem for me cause I can use a more vertical swing, but if the ball has no spin or topspin, what should I do?  Do a topspin over the table or let it fall long.

If I should topspin over the table.. how it is? it's not the same motion than a normal topspin cause i cant get enough room and have a good timing.

If I should let it fall.. if i let it fall and it's near the end of the table I should be very near to do the topspin correctly, and a very horizontal swing cause the ball is low and near the table, am I correct?

What's the best way to attack these balls?, thanks you so much!

Hi Francisco,

I think the best way to play these balls is to take it early and over the table.  It may feel awkward at first but it is a matter of getting the bat over the ball and using a brushing contact over the ball.

The key element is that you need a good fine contact to get the stroke right.  The swing also needs to be fast to generate enough speed to lift the ball over the net and have enough spin to get the ball to drop once it gets over the net.

The amount that you close the ball depends on the amount of topspin on the ball.  The more topspin the more you can lose your bat over the ball.

I have exactly the same issue, and the problem for me is footwork.  When looping over the table, you really need to get your feet/knee under the table, but I tend to try to loop from too far back because subconsciously I am just aware the table is on the way and I can't step forward.

Thanks Alois! and you too Ji-Soo, i will practice the tips, I think one of the problems i have looping a ball over the table is the same than you Ji-Soo, i do it far from the table so i contact the ball late, when im finishing my swing, so the ball go more up than i would like and goes off the table, we need practice this awkward stroke!
