Strokes
Hi team
I have long pimples on the backhand. Chopping, pushing and blocking work pretty well but I can’t attack from the backhand and can’t get topspin action doing anything…. Tips please!
Thanks!
Geoff
Hi Geoff,
Thanks for your question. It sounds like you’ve already built a solid foundation with your long pimples—being able to chop, push and block effectively is a great start.
When it comes to attacking with long pimples, especially from the backhand, it’s a bit different to what you might expect from inverted rubber. You’re right that getting a true topspin action is very difficult with long pimples, because the rubber is designed to absorb and reverse spin rather than generate it. So rather than trying to brush up like you would with topspin, the key is to think more in terms of punching or lifting the ball flat through the bounce.
Take a look at our tutorial on the Long Pimple Attack Against Backspin.
All the best,
Alois Rosario
