hi alois and jeff,

ive read many of your responses and found your major advice on attacking is to put more tospin on the ball. Whenever i attempt this, my opponents find it very hard to respond to, and the consistency with medium-heavy loops is stunning! However i can only do this when the ball is LONG; if half long or anywhere btw half long and long i open my racket face but the ball goes out of the table but with tremendous spin and arc. how do i stop this ? it is a bother...

Also what position do i take ball at against a block(rising, top, fall) and what position do i start of with (currently at top of blade at upper edge of table against block)? i also find this hard to do against low balls and most importantly my relatively flatter hit i used before had NONE of these problems but for consistency.

thanks!

Hi Shripathi,

For your first problem, try to just turn your racket face over a little.  If you are getting good spin, then you may also need to slow the stroke down a little to get it on the table.  Try these two things and let me know how you go.

Secondly, you should try to hit the ball in general at the top of the bounce.  This gives you the best chance to hit the ball faster and accurately.  You may need to start with your bat a little higher and turn your bat face down a little to get over the ball and still maintain the topspin.

thanks coach but what about half long or "3/4 long"? and also i find it difficult getting the right touch when starting higher and/or hitting the ball at the peak. can u suggest any drills/ways to overcome this?

Hi Shripathi,

You still need to get the ball at the peak when you can. Developing touch is a matter of doing it more.  Hit more of this type of ball.
