hi alois and jeff,

i played against a player who counterhits well with antispin... i can never receive her punches. how do i receive them?

And, how to actually attack a return (push of backspin or block)? my coach MAULS players with antispin at under 3 and the like... is there a trick to it??

thanks!!!

Hi Shripathi,

When a player with anti spin blocks the ball you need to lift the next ball because it will come through with some backspin.  The anti spin is reversing the topspin on the ball.  It acts very much like long pimples.

If you serve with backspin and they push it back, it will have a little topspin on the ball.  This is the best ball to attack on.  It is what you should be looking for.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.

They will, but not as well as the backspin serves.
