Hi Rahul,

Put your thumb where it feels comfortable.  I find it is comfortable just resting on the bottom of the rubber.  Just make sure it doesn't go up too high on the rubber because that will tighten your wrist and make it more difficult to generate speed and spin.

Forehand Topspin Variations

A great weapon is being able to vary the amount of speed and spin on your forehand topspin stroke. By making your stroke more vertical and brushing the ball finely, you can generate more spin. For more speed you need to swing more horizontally.

i have been playing about 2 and half years now, and i still cant settle my thumb in one position for all shots. i generally only have it on the rubber when doing backhand topspins.  when backhand pushing or any forehand shots i have it on the wood.

Hi Rahul,

A little movement is OK.  As long as it doesn't mean big changes in your grip during the rally.

Hi Alois,

I would like to know while resting your thumb at the bottom of the rubber, does it rest adjacent to the middle finger or there is a gap between the 2 fingers?

Hi Albert,

You can have it touching the middle finger or have a gap.  Whichever is more comfortable for you.  I prefer to have a gap but that is just my preference.
