What happens if the server throws the ball up but, mid-air, decides not to continue with that attempted serve and instead just catches the ball so that it is not an attempt to have it be his serve. Does the server lose the point?

Hi Robert,

There server would lose the point. The ball is in play when you throw it up so you have to complete the serve.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
