How can we prevent our opponent to do a forehand or backhand flick.

Hi Clement,

If you want to play short, then work on keeping the ball as low as possible with backspin.

Or you can hit the ball a little longer to get them to hit the ball from further away from the net.

You can also think about changing the spin on your short ball.  Even sometimes putting some topspin on the short ball will make the opponent have to alter their flick and could force then to hit it over the end of the table.

The final option is to hit the ball long.  This will mean they won't flick the ball but you are then opening the opportunity for them to make a topspin.
