Hi! How are you today? Can you please explain the advantages/disadvantages of using a heavy vs light table tennis racket?

Do you have slow motion video of the wrist action required to create spin and or specific "brushing" exercises to create spin?  (I have watched many of the videos on your site and do not generate nearly the spin you do).

Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Andrew,

The lighter racket allows more manoeuvrability of the hand and wrist.  This allows you to generate more speed with the wrist and potentially more spin and speed.

The heavier racket can mean more weight behind the stroke and therefore more speed and spin.  It just takes a little longer to get the racket moving.

In the end it is a feel for your self and what feels right for you.

We have a video on the Advanced Forehand Topspin.  Starting at 3:45 we talk about the wrist movement and have video to show you the movement.

Choosing a Table Tennis Bat

Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.
