Surprisingly Effective Warm Up

Strategy

Earlier today, I was bored waiting for my next class, so I did some walling practices in the hallway... it got faster and faster... after a few minutes I noticed the ball getting slower, in other words, my eyes were adjusting to the speed... afterwards, we played table tennis, I got a winning streak of 6 matches, some of them were double against just me... because of that short warm up, my class standing elevated, my returns were very fast, until a few hours I lost my streak , either I was tired or the effect of the warm up ran out... my question is, what other warmups are surprisingly effective? =D

Hi Jigo,

Warming up is about getting yourself ready to play in whichever manner works for you.  You have obviously found one that helps you to get ready which is great.

I used to find that doing some fine motor skills also helped me.  I used to try to roll the ball from one side of the bat to the other.  This used to get my mind focused on the ball and calmed me down because I had something to think about other than worrying about the match ahead.

I wonder if any other players have some ideas.

On the table before a match when we are FH counterhitting, I find it really useful to alternate between gradually moving towards the table and moving away.  Having to adjust the speed of your stroke to compensate is a really good and efficient way to get your eye in and your timing when you only have a few minutes to warm up...especially if you've just arrived at the hall.

Ji-Soo,but does your sparringpartner adjust the balls for your moving?
i have tried something simialr too,but when counterhitting,if iam moved back,I cannot reach the ball effectively.

<sarcasm>What's this 'warm up' you're all talking about? At the levels I play, my opponents use the time 'before a match' to practice their smashes. I get my 'warm up' from walking around and picking up the ball.</sarcasm> wink
