Strokes and racket angle

Strokes

Against the varying degrees of back-spin one may face, how do you decide when to change the racket angle to more open and play a normal stroke and when to change the stroke to a one with low start and high finish.  Also, will opening the racket face allow me to play a faster stroke against backspin?

I know that one should not get caught in the technicalities but I just wanted to have a rough idea so I may have a platform from which I could build and tinker with my strokes.

Hi Abhiram,

To lift a ball you can do it with the angle of your racket or the angle of your swing.  The more open the face the more forward the stroke can be.  The more vertical the stroke, then more you can turn your bat forward and close you bat angle.

You can play a fast stroke with either method however if you close your angle and get more topspin on the ball you will have more safety with the stroke because you can hit it higher over the net and allow the topspin to drag it down.
