hi alois

when doing strength training like sit ups, push ups, squats, what the best way of making muscles stronger ? Is it better to do 50 sit ups at once or 25 * 2 sit ups?

So is doing a few small reps better than one big rep, if you know what i mean?

Thank you

Hi Tom,

For muscle strength it is better to do less repetitions with a greater weight.  So you could add some weight to your sit ups or push ups.

Doing more repetitions is better for improving endurance.

Take a look at the articles on Weight Training Specifically for Table Tennis and Strength Conditioning for Table Tennis.  They will help you to gain a better understanding of the whole process.

#32 - Effective Returns

In this training plan we put together all of the different returns we've learnt and focus on producing an effective return. You should be aiming to topspin all long serves and then weighing up your options on the short serve. A good short push is a great option but you also need some variation with either a flick or a long fast push. Go out and put this training plan into action and work on improving your return.

also is it better to focus one muscle each day, or to do a variety of muscle per day?

And is it better to do strength training everyday when not in the sesson or to have a break between days of physical exercise?

thank you

It is good to give the muscles a rest so if you train 3 times per week it would give you time to recover as well.
