Staying on the attack against slower players

Strategy

Hi Alois,

Lately I've been facing an opponent who uses fast non-tacky rubber. His attacks can vary from medium topspin to almost no spin at all.

My greatest advantages in this match-up are a powerful forehand flick and a decent forehand loop. If there's any spin, I can drive him away from the table and launch my next attack. The problem here is that my opponent does not like to give me much spin to work with, making it difficult to stay aggressive.

In this match-up, how can I be more aggressive on the attack?

Hi John,

Because he isn't giving you much speed you should take your time.  Wait for your opportunity when the ball is in a good position to make a strong attack.

Your stroke can be a little more forward swinging to generate the speed.

It can be frustrating playing these sorts of players but if you have some patience you will do well.

Taking my time actually worked better than I expected. I was worried that I might not be able to attack; but to my surprise, the opportunity would eventually come.

Thanks
