Sponge durability

Hi Alois and Jeff,

I´ve read your answers regarding durability of rubbers and they’re focussed on the surface layer. What about the sponge? Could I assume that the sponge is still ok if the surface is not worn out? And if not - would it make sense to replace the rubber generally after e.g. 80 hours of playing? (Of course this also has to do with the level of playing - I´m a beginner... :-) )

Thank you!

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The sponge doesn’t really wear out as it isn’t contacting the ball.  I am sure that after many years it may start to deteriorate but the top sheet of rubber is going to be gone well before that.

Choosing a Table Tennis Bat

Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.
