Hello Sir,

Since I dont have a TT table at my home, I practice my serves and different spins on the floor. Though I can successfully do various serves like the pendulum on the floor, the ball doesnt seem to spin when I practice on the table. Also the ball doesnt get enough forward momentum to cross the net.

Kindly give me tips to solve this. Your help is appreciated.

Thanking you,

Omkar

Hi Omkar,

It is great that you are able to generate the spin to start off with.  This is a good step forward.

If the ball is not going far enough, hit the ball slightly more forward with your swing so that the ball lands further down the table on your side, or you can simply hit the ball harder to get it have more forward momentum.

But Sir what about the spin? When I hit it hard, it doesn't even spin a bit!

Thank you for the quick responce.

Make sure you keep the same brushing contact while you hit the ball faster.

Thank You Sir for the help. I figured out that using the penhold grip to spin the ball was much easier for me. I can also do the Ma Lin serve effectively.

Thank you once again.

Hello Sir,

I have little doubt about the grip. I find it very easy to spin the ball using the penhold grip; however I don't find it comfortable to use for the rest of the rally. Shakehand grip is comfortable for me but I can't seem to put spin on the ball.

Kindly advice me on which grip to use.

Thank you.

Hi Omkar,

You can use the shakehand grip when you are serving but modify it slightly.  This is what all the top players do.

Take the the fingers away from the handle so then you are just controlling the bat with your thumb and forefinger.  You can put the 3 fingers behind the handle in a fist.

This will allow you better use of your wrist and then you will be able to use your normal grip during the rally as well by just putting the 3 fingers back around the handle.
