Hi Alois,

As my opposition has the habit of hitting my smashes I though I could try something new against him.

As he struggles to face spin, I thought I would mix it up and make a now smash known as the turner smash.

I tried it many times but it did not succeed.  If possible can I get some help on that.  By which I get one step further in becoming my school's best player.  I am in 7th Standard and he is in 8th and has a lot of experience.cool

Hi Sai,

Trying to put spin while making a fast shot is difficult.  It is best to work on your topspin strokes more.  This is the stroke that will win you matches.

Take a look at the lesson on the Forehand Topspin Against Block.  When you can do this really well, try to vary the pace of the stroke, some slower and some faster.  This is how you will get him to make more mistakes.

Then after a lot of practice you could also try the Sidespin Forehand Topspin.

Keep working to become the best in your school and then try to join a club as well and expand your abilities even further.

Putting spin (except for topspin) on the smash can be tricky, yes. Another option you could consider is to fake it. Look like you're gonna blast the ball, then hit it quite softly without adding spin or anything. Your opponent's timing will be messed up and if they react slowly they might not realise on time that they need to put their own speed on the ball so they'll go into the net
