Smashing

Strokes

Whenever I am smashing the opponent finds it easy to block and eventually I'd hit it into the net or off the table.   But when I'm blocking a smash I can never get it back onto the table. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong and how I can make my smash harder to return. Thanks.

Hi Benedict,

Even though it looks like an easy shot, Smashing can be quite difficult to do.

The main thing that I find is that players find it difficult to get into position to hit the ball properly.

Take a look at our lesson on the Forehand Smash for lots of other tips on how to make your smash better.

I followed the videos tips and it worked really well. Thanks a lot. One more thing though.     Mypush is okay but it's always too high to stop my opponent smashing. So how do I stop him smashing if my push is too high. If I can't stop him smashing how do I get a smash back on the table. Thanks again Alois.

Hi Benedict,

Work on keeping the ball lower on the push.  You can do this by brushing the ball more on contact.  Another way, and this may sound too simplistic but it works, is to just aim lower.  Think about the ball touching the top of the net.  This is the best way to stop them from smashing.  Prevention is better than the cure.
