Hi Alois

When I do he slow spinny topspin, I am always afraid that my opponent will attack that ball but I am also not confident with my fast topspin because I am bad at reading the amount of backspin my opponent put on the ball and a fast topspin have only a small margin for error. Which topspin stroke do you recommend me to do and can you give me some tips on how to read the amount of spin that is on the ball?

Hi Yap,

The key with the slow topspin is to get good placement and variation each time you do it.  If you are in a better position and the ball is higher then you an make a faster topspin.

Reading spin only comes with a lot of playing.  The slower spin is better if you are not sure because it gives you a bigger margin for error over the net.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
