Receivers Position

Receiving

Hello Alois, Hello Jeff,

While watching some Top Games I noticed a difference in stance between some players in the Ready position to receive a serve. There is the usual classic wide stance on one side, but on the other side especially used by the Chinese top players like Ma long, a not so wide stance while keeping the upper body still very low (so to say leaning strongly forward). I think from this position they could be faster and with less effort with one step at the optimal position for the Return. Is my perception right?

Thank You for your extremely generous support.

Hi Marcin,

Good observations.  Ma Long tends to get up more than someone like Fan Zhendong.  They tend to go up as the opponent is throwing the ball up in the air.  However, you will notice that when they are in position to make the shot they are back down in the low position again.
