hi alois and jeff,

i just finished my exams and after a long time im playing tt again.

i find that my backhand topspin stroke has a lot of sidespin (towards right handers backhand ) but very little consistency and my stroke also seems to lack the feeling. can u give me any advice on controlling the backhand topspin onto the table?

and my snap even though it goes upward on the ball the sidespin is generated. can u also telll me about how to get rid of this sidespin?? it is very annoying

Hi Shripathi,

Sidespin is generated when your wrist is dropped during contact.  Make sure you are holding your wrist up so that the end of your bat is as high as your wrist.

Take a look at the lesson on the Sidespin Forehand Topspin.  This will give you an understanding of what is happening with your wrist on contact to generate the sidespin.

Think primarily about the contact of the bat on the ball.  If the bat contacts straight over the ball then the ball will go straight.
